Announcement: MIRAI program 2018

On behalf of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Norway is happy to announce that we are accepting applications for the short term invitation program MIRAI 2018, a programme inviting graduate and undergraduate students from Europe and Central Asia to Japan.
The chosen candidates will participate in a one-week tour of Japan. Visits may include top-tier technological and infrastructural sites, unique historical and cultural sites, and some academically beneficial opportunities.
Applicants from Norwegian universities may apply to two different groups:
Group 1. Theme: Politics and Security, 7-14 November 2018
Group 3. Theme: Science and Technology, 23-30 January 2019
Eligible to apply are those who fulfil the following general criteria:
The chosen candidates will participate in a one-week tour of Japan. Visits may include top-tier technological and infrastructural sites, unique historical and cultural sites, and some academically beneficial opportunities.
Applicants from Norwegian universities may apply to two different groups:
Group 1. Theme: Politics and Security, 7-14 November 2018
Group 3. Theme: Science and Technology, 23-30 January 2019
Eligible to apply are those who fulfil the following general criteria:
- Student enrolled at a university or university college in Norway
- 20+ years old
- Have previously not spent more than 6 months in Japan, or participated in MIRAI or similar invitation programmes
- Good health
- Satisfactory demand of the English language
- (additional criteria listed under the specific group details)
Group 1. Theme: Politics and Security
Total number of participants: 40 undergraduate/graduate students
Place: Tokyo and Hiroshima or Nagasaki

Program contents in Japan:
- Attend lectures on Japanese politics, economy, society, history, and diplomatic policy to gain a deeper understanding of Japan.
- Intellectual exchange at a prestigious university in Japan through interaction and discussion
- Visit the Peace Memorial in Hiroshima or Nagasaki
- Visit high-tech and traditional industries, fine arts and traditional crafts exhibitions, cultural heritage sites, and local government offices.
- Share information about Japan through reporting sessions and social media during/after the program
Group elegibility criteria:
- Applicants must have good academic achievements such as top 20%

- Attend lectures on Japanese innovation, technology brands of Japan, politics, economy, society, history, and diplomatic policy to gain a deeper understanding of Japan.
- Intellectual exchange at a prestigious technical university in Japan through interaction and discussion
- Visit the Peace Memorial in Hiroshima or Nagasaki
- Visit cutting-edge technology and traditional industries, research institutions, space research, fine arts and traditional crafts exhibitions, cultural heritage sites, and local government offices.
- Share information about Japan through reporting sessions and social media during/after the program
Group elegibility criteria:
- Applicants must major in non-humanities
